The flying car is here: Dubai is testing its drone taxi service

The flying car is here: Dubai is testing its drone taxi service | collaboration | Scoop.it

Dubai staged the first public test of its drone taxi service Monday, offering a peek at what it might — or will — be like to commute by flying car.

The self-piloting electric Volocopter is less noisy and has a smaller physical and environmental footprint than a traditional helicopter. Offering space for two passengers, the 6.5-foot-high copter is topped by a 22-foot-wide hoop studded with 18 rotors. In video of the test, the all-white drone rose, unoccupied, about 650 feet over the sand near Jumeirah Beach Park, flew itself for about five minutes, then gently landed.

Airborne cars to transform Dubai’s public transportation

Airborne cars to transform Dubai’s public transportation | collaboration | Scoop.it

Unlike other cities and countries, where driverless mobility has been a private sector-led initiative, Dubai is leading the transition to driverless mobility in the city and plans to take a leading position worldwide in the next 13 years.

A jármű max. 1 km magasan repül, 40-50 km és fél óra a kapacitása, 100 kg a teherbírása. Nyáron indul a szolgáltatás.

High in the sky: Small flying “cars” come a bit closer to reality | The Economist

Lilium is starting work on a five-seat vehicle and hopes to offer a ride-hailing service. Another German company, e-volo, has been testing a flying vehicle for several years. It recently showed off the second version of its electric Volocopter (pictured), which could be certified for flight as soon as next year.

Valójában nincs ennyire messze a légitaxi! Dubaiban idén nyárra tervezik a vezető nélküli egyszemélyes légitaxik beindítását. Meglátjuk...
