Self-driving is one of the greatest challenges of our age. For the first time, we have the technological background, spatial and temporal resolution for a robotic system to fully understand its surroundings.

This means that automated systems are now capable of controlling a vehicle at speeds of 130 km/h (80 mi/h) being aware that any mistake can cost human lives. Self-driving systems do this by recognizing their surroundings and understanding the kinematic characteristics of each object in every moment with negligible uncertainty. They will then define the safe free space, the trajectory and route they should follow to reach a destination.
